Hiking at LongMire "Trail of the Shadows"

This trail gets its name from the long shadows the trees make. Katney also informed me of this reason: The shadows are also the "shadows"of the past--the historical significance of this location where James Longmire established the first "tourist" location at the mountain. Can you imagine how they got there in the late 1800s?(Thank you!)

Our first afternoon there after we set up camp, we hiked this trail. (CLICK on the photo to enlarge to read the sign if you want more information.)We did this before the previous photos I published of the deer but it was the same general area but on the trail instead of by the inn.
The photo here was along the trail and the deer is a youngster.with mama in one of my photos. After awhile of watching them, the mama took off and the two youngsters stayed for a short time and then bounded over the fence to find mama. . .

This trail was a short one but it gave us a taste of the beautiful history Rainier provides to all who venture upon its mountain. After the walk about, we spent time across the street near the Inn taking photos of the deer (that I featured in my first post about camping) until the sun set and we could get those beautiful views I posted earlier.

Such an interesting place, with so much to discover and to learn! The Bambi is so lovely!
The panels and signs offer a lot of explanations about what you see, that's really well made and give sense to the things.
You really had a great time there!

Seeing the deer up close mot afraid of people must feel good - everyone living in harmony.

This must be a much-visited spot if the government has put up so many signs to talk about what there is to see. Fun to see, Paulie!

Lovely shots - I love the pattern of the stone walls. However, it doesn't look too appetizing to use those murky waters as a "cure!"

It must must have been the tour of a lifetime, judging by the photos.

I love your story. It's great when these markers interpret the landscape and the history. Sure does make is special. I think I could be doing with a dose of those waters!

James Longmire was quite a guy. Good idea taking photos of all the signs. I love the shots of the deer. They are such beautiful animals.

About Me

My photo
WELCOME to my blog. I hope you will return often.

I am on my third digital camera, all Olympus. I enjoy using it and sharing my photos. I also enjoy writing. I hope to share a little of each on this blog. My main blog is Postcards From the Northwest.

Kerri and I will continue to add benches to "For the Love of Benches Continued . . . " blog also. It is good to continue to share with her!

Continuation of the Kiggins House Re-model photos were lost when my computer crashed.

The latest city project, TURTLE PLACE, will unfold here as I have time to add photos. It is complete and maybe I can find enough photos someday to show you the final results. Next project after the two I am working on now. . .
