Purple Tulips Glow

The unkempt yard surrounding these tulips doesn't deserve to have their beauty! They are so gorgeous, I would think the owners of the yard would take care of it. Yet, the contrast of ugliness and gorgeous makes this group of tulips . . . simply, a delight.

I am still using old photos to illustrate my daily writings. This week my blessing is the beauty that Spring brings to nature. Each season has a different kind of beauty such as snow in Winter, colored leaves in Fall and boats on the river in Summer.

I don't think there is anything as beautiful right now as tulips in springtime! Even tho I don't have a camera to use presently, I can remember some of the beautiful tulips I have had the opportunity to photograph in the past and this is yet another one. For others, see the three posts below. So my blessing this week is the memories I have of tulips whether with camera or my eyes.

Blowing in the wind . . .

This is the only time I have caught tulips all bending in one direction like this. It is also a photo I took with my older camera.

A Trip Down Memory Lane . . .

My camera stopped working -- the shutter would not open. The store tells me it is not the battery but I just don't know. So, I haven't taken any photos for over a week now. I miss it. The tulips are blooming like crazy now and I have nothing to capture their likeness. I haven't decided what to do about a new camera yet. I only had this one 4 months but I did get about 4500 photos taken with it. We have had some weather in the 80's and I have no camra for my walks. . . Turtle Place is ahvign its grand opening May 1st. . . what to do, what to do. . .

Just this week, a friend sent me back a few flower photos I had taken several years ago. That is what I am sharing with you today. I cropped them so the photos enlarge a bit bigger than here but not full scale. I hope you enjoy them since I haven't used them on a blog before.

Took this one in the driveway at the entrance to our building.

I saw this compass symbol down on a business building near the Columbia River and even tho it has no direction letters on it, I recognized it as a compass. Today, I was hunting through old but recent photos that I have taken in order to find one to illustrate my blessing this week and it seemed a perfect fit. (My new camera which I took this photo with stopped working -- can't get the lens to open.)

Not only does it have 4 directions to choose for making personal choices but the center looks like a cross representation to me also. But, it's an empty cross -- a cross that reminds me to look to the ressurected Jesus for direction as I live my Christian life. My blessing is the reminder that I have "new life living in my heart" because I believe.

This is not a great photo of the cross, filled with flowers from last Sunday's "Festival of Flowers" service but the best I could take because it was raining and they hadn't moved the cross to the lawn yet.

First photos I took with my 2nd camera . . .

This camera had the ability to take a few photos without a card and they were stored in the camera memory. I just did not know how to get them out until this week. I finally asked how to do it. You just upload the same way but without a card in your camera. lol Anyway, before I could add a photo card to my camera and while I was heading for the bus stop when I came out of the store, I saw this rainbow. It came out and disappeaed so fast that I had no time to really compose a good shot. I still like the rainbow although the photo is cluttered with other stuff.

Boats on the Columbia

It was Salmon Fishing time on the Columbia River when I snapped these photos. With all the movement of boats, I don't see how they could catch any fish.

Barn views

I was walking a city trail whenI spotted this barn. As many times as I ahve walked that part of the trail, I hadn't noticedit. This time I took photos until it was out of sight. Ü I like old red barns.

Answer from last post:

ANSWER to yesterday's photo question. . .

There is a little man made creek/ water fountains at one end/ and waterfall at this end. So that is the water from the waterfall in the little park next door to our building. The gardner puts a soap like solution in it to keep the moss/algae from forming since it is not a natural river bed. It makes the water look ridiculous but interesting for a photographer walking by. . .

Thanks for all your creative answers/guesses. Rune E. was the almost right -- it had nothing to do with a sink tho. . . Ü I suppose you could call the disinfectant soap. . .

Blog Your Blessings Sunday/Happy Easter!

I was trying to think of something special in my photo collection that represented the Christian meaning of Easter for me. When I saw this cattail, I thought it was the perfect picture for what I was seeking. . . Be sure to CLICK on photo to see the seeds breaking through -- photo is sooooo much better larger.

JUST as Jesus broke forth from the tomb and death on that first Easter Day to GIVE US new life with Him, the cattail bursts open and spreads new life through its seeds. A double blessing this Easter!!!!!!!! Happy Easter to anyone that celebrates it!

PS For an added blessing, check out the two unusual Daffodils in the post below.

Unique Daffodils

I found these on a walk by a church where I go to Bible Study. The yellow Daffodil is a double Daffodil.
This one is a white Daffodil with a pink center.

I have seen the double ones before but never white and pink ones. IF you CLICK on them, you will get a real treat!

Tulips at Esther Short Park downtown

I was walking past Esther Short Park downtown today when I spotted these red and varigated tulips. Since my friend isn't the walker that I am, she just wanted to get back home as she was tired after just a two mile walk. So, later this afternon, I went back and found these! Many of the tulip plants are up and budding but not blooming yet. This are just a few shots of some of the ones that were blooming already. I think the blue skies we had the last 4 days and weather in the 70's helped, don't you?

POSTSCRIPT:
Katney found out the name of this flower from below in a post:it is a Pink Flowering Current.

About Me

My photo
WELCOME to my blog. I hope you will return often.

I am on my third digital camera, all Olympus. I enjoy using it and sharing my photos. I also enjoy writing. I hope to share a little of each on this blog. My main blog is Postcards From the Northwest.

Kerri and I will continue to add benches to "For the Love of Benches Continued . . . " blog also. It is good to continue to share with her!

Continuation of the Kiggins House Re-model photos were lost when my computer crashed.

The latest city project, TURTLE PLACE, will unfold here as I have time to add photos. It is complete and maybe I can find enough photos someday to show you the final results. Next project after the two I am working on now. . .
