RIP

I got the news today at 11:07 AM. . . my digital camera has passed on. They tried to schedule surgery for it but there were no available parts for a transplant. I am so sad. The funeral will be tomorrow; instead of taking photos of the Christmas ships on the Columbia River, I will be in mourning.

Olympus was adopted by me on June 14th, 2002 in Portland, Oregon. It came to live with me across the Columbia River in Vancouver, Washington. It was a walker, like me and went everywhere I did for 6 and a half years in all kinds of weather. It enjoyed all seasons but most of all. winter with its white blanket of snow. It traveled to several cities in Oregon with me to retreats and bell choir festivals. In Washington, Vancouver was its joy, collecting memories of beautiful flowers, buildings, murals, historical buildings, benches, odd shots and memories along the many trails and city blocks/neighborhoods here. It visited Mt. St Helens a few years back with a friend from Vancouver. It rode a ferry to Seattle with grandkids. It also traveled with me to Mount Rainier with friends from Yakima Valley. . . twice -- once for my birthday last January in the snow and again in August for a camping trip .

It will be missed dearly by me but the photos it left behind (over 40,000 of them) will bring back memories of the good times we had together.
I will never forget the joy it gave me. Thank you, my friend.

Sorry to hear about your camera. However, you must look on the bright side. Maybe in time a new camera!

I know that this one was a constant companion (I feel naked without mine.) But there are so many improvements in digital cameras in the last six years. You will have fun learning a replacement when you are able to get one.

In a little longer than you have had yours, I have worn out three. One went to the camera hospital yesterday. Fortunately, it is still under warantee. My back-up also has problems, but will work on automatic and the zoom works.

Oh, sorry to hear of your loss. I know how much it meant to you and all the memories you made together. I'm hoping a new one is in your near future.

Oh dear....now what? The poster above is right, the prices are lower for the improvements. Check at your camera store to see if they sell used.
Good luck.

I saw the RIP on my blogroll and knew the camera was done. You have done great things with that camera. I hope the new sidekick is every bit as faithful!

Hi, Paulie,
I've no computer yet but I'm by a friend, and from here, I can't post but I can comment.
I'm so sorry to read about your camera. I understand you so much.Since I began my blog , I've always my camera with me and I know how much we share with those strange mecanical companions.
But "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened"
You still have all those beautyful pictures in memory, and now, with the new year beginning, you will have a new camera. You will learn to live together, build new adventures , and write a new page .
You and me have no luck by those times, me with my computer and you with camera!
We should associate!!
As we say in France,"I'm from all heart with you",
Mary

How very sad! But six years and 40,000 photos means it served you well. I certainly know how I'd feel if I lost my camera today so I'll be thinking about you. Hope you find another you like as well.

This was a wonderful post as a tribute to your beloved camera, Paulie. Your camera would be so proud.

About Me

My photo
WELCOME to my blog. I hope you will return often.

I am on my third digital camera, all Olympus. I enjoy using it and sharing my photos. I also enjoy writing. I hope to share a little of each on this blog. My main blog is Postcards From the Northwest.

Kerri and I will continue to add benches to "For the Love of Benches Continued . . . " blog also. It is good to continue to share with her!

Continuation of the Kiggins House Re-model photos were lost when my computer crashed.

The latest city project, TURTLE PLACE, will unfold here as I have time to add photos. It is complete and maybe I can find enough photos someday to show you the final results. Next project after the two I am working on now. . .
