When blue meets blue. . .

I took this photo this past week when I was feeling my lowest after Glenn's passing . . . I think God arranged this to cheer me up. . . God's in His heavens and all is right with the world.

Sails on the Columbia

Friday was "blue skies and a great day for sailing" and while I did see one boat on the Columbia as I walked over the I-205 bridge, there were lots more there on Saturday when the skies were not as blue. Probably had something to do with Friday being a workday. . . caught a few of them while on a walk with my friend, Dorothy, after we walked Officer's Row and attended a program to celebrate Lincoln's birthday at the Pearson Air Museum, we walked over to the Columbia River to introducer her to Rosie the Riviter statue. I think I wore her out but she says she likes to walk and one day we hope to walk out to Vancovuer Lake again -- 15 miles round trip. Unless we decide to walk Frenchman's Bar beach strip which will add 2miles doubled to it. . . Without further ado, here's a few of the sails I saw this weekend before the rains really came on Monday.

This piece of land juts out into the Columbia River close to Wintler Park. Years ago, when I first moved to Vancouver, it was just a piece of land/dirt and wild berry bushes overgrowth but you could walk a path out onto the peninsula for a bit. I did but when I got part way out, there was a big hole in the middle and you could see the river down there. It scared me and I never walked out there again. That made me sad because the berries sure were good and it had a beautiful view of Mt. Hood.

Well, now it is great -- has paved paths and greenery (no more berries), no more deep hole and lots of benches and this compass star pavement at the end. To get there, you walk on the paved path along the Columbia either from Wintler Park in the east near the 205 bridge or from Marine Park at the western end.



I showed some of the benches in previous posts when talking about Mt. Hood or featuring the bench itself. It's a beautiful walkway now, thanks to someone who made it a memorial and fixed it up to walk along there or sit for a spell and watch Mt. Hood or action on the Columbia River. My blessing is that we have people who care enough about our river and the walking paths alongside it that they build such beautiful memorial spots for all to enjoy God's gift of nature around us on the Columbia River.

More Mount Hood

I went for a short walk today down by the I-5 bridge on the Columbia River this time. I also walked the LAND bridge over Hiway 14 and then home again. It was another beautiful day with blue skies and whisps of clouds and many contrails in that blue sky. I had several places to take a photo of Mt. Hood, across the Columbia River in Oregon. These are a variety of my photos of the mountain today: CLICK on to enlarge. I took these in various places along my walk. It is surprising to see how many places you can view Mt. Hood from in Vancouver.

Although much of the sky was as blue as could be, parts closer to Mt. Hood had wispy clouds BUT this is the first time in many days that I have even been able to see THE MOUNTAIN. I took this from the peninsula that juts out into the Columbia River. You can see traffic on the bridge and even a boat in the river. This morning, we have the dense fog back but it is expected to lift by afternoon and be in the 50's again. And they call this winter? Glad we aren't having the below freezing most of the rest of the country is having. CLICK to enlarge.

Flooding in WA state. . .

We had 12 days of snow lately and across the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon, they had 15 days of snow. Then the rain came and we have had 4 days of rain. There's no place for all that melted snow/rain to go -- so it floods over the banks as the Columbia River rises.
I showed you this photo last Sunday when I titled the post "The Columbia is rising" -- I put it back on this entry to compare my photos from today. The little spot I took the photos has a small beach but big enough to walk on for a few yards and take a wonderful photo of Mt. Hood in the east across the river but not now.

The log on the small beach is now in the river submerged -- only the V shaped limbs are seen above the water.
Well, the Columbia is overflowing its banks but we do not have floods like Chehalis or Centralia and for that I am thankful. It is 51 degrees outside today. I am hoping that we get some more snow but it doesn't look like that will happen any too soon. . . definitely not in time for my birthday. . .

The Columbia is rising!!!!

I heard about rivers flooding around Washington so I walked down to the Columbia River yesterday. We had two days of rain that melted our 9 days of snow. This is what I found at one spot near downtown. See that old fallen tree trunk? It is usually on the small beach and not in the water. I can usually step out close to the water and photograph Mt. Hood in Oregon. Since it was a blue sky day, I tried to find the mountain but couldn't because of the flood waters and clouds with jsut a speck of blue in that direction. Most of the snow that was clear to the river's edge is also gone.

Now that I finally got one photo uploaded, I will try to catch up on my reading of blogs that I usually visit and hopefully participate in Blog Your Blessings Sunday and Bridges Between Monday also.
